NEWS AND UPDATES
June 2019: Congratulations to Ann Gregus for getting her first NIH R01 grant [link], which will evaluate new therapeutic mechanisms for pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis. She has all the support of the Buczynski lab as she applies for a faculty position!
May 2019: Congratulations for graduating to Malissa, Megan, and Reilly. We're sad that they are leaving the lab, but we're really excited for their future prospects and wish them all well!
May 2019: We were very excited to host our friend and collaborator Dr. Hugo Tejera (NIMH) for an excellent talk as part of the Fralin Life Science Seminars [link]. He gave an excellent talk on the role of the Kappa Opioid Receptor in reward signaling, and we're looking forward to having him back soon!
April 2019: Congratulations to Megan Anderson for being offered as position as a research fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She'll be working for Dr. Yeka Aponte (NIDA) to elucidate the neuronal mechanisms regulating the rewarding nature of food intake and drug abuse. Very cool stuff!
April 2019: Congratulations to Christine Faunce for winning the Clare Booth Luce Undergraduate Research Award! This award will support her research efforts during the summer as well as the following academic year.
April 2019: The Virginia Tech School of Neuroscience was officially granted a Chapter of the Nu Rho Psi, the National Honor Society for Neuroscience [link]. This success was due in large part to the efforts of Ian Levine (founding President) and Christine Faunce (founding Secretary), undergraduates in the Buczynski Lab. Great job to both of you!

December 2018: New paper in Pain demonstrates 15-LOX-1 faciliates pain in preclinical models that are insensitive the traditional NSAID therapeutics [link]. Ann was featured in the Virginia Tech News [link] and interviewed on National Public Radio [link] for this project. The goal of this project is to develop alternative treatments for pain in an effort to reduce the use of opioids. Great job Ann!
November 2018: Congratulations to Reilly Scott for being accepted to medical school at Thomas Jefferson University. In just four years, she'll be Dr. Scott!
November 2018: Congratulations to Ian Levine for winning the Cayman Biomedical Research Institute (CABRI) Undergraduate Scholarship!
October 2018: The Adaptive Brain and Behavior Area [link] at Virginia Tech selected our proposal to evaluate the health effects of e-cigarette exposure in preclinical models, in collaboration with Dr. Liwu Li and Dr. Susan Campbell. We really appreciate all their support for this work!
